Our handcrafted small lot Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the prestigious Caldwell Vineyard in the Coombsville Appellation of the Napa Valley. This wine was aged in 100% new French oak barrels, and was created to bring you elegance, softness, structure and expressive flavors on your palate.
The 2021 KATALI Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, beautifully concentrated, yet focused and structured wine with a terrific mid-palate depth. Deeply colored, it opens with seductive aromas of red and black fruit, cocoa powder, tobacco and a hint of spice. As with all Katali wines, it is artfully crafted to be an elegant, full bodied, well-balanced and luscious wine. Our Cabernet is velvety with blackberry, raspberry, showy cocoa, a hint of leather, notes of vanilla, warm spice, lilacs and violets. This quintessential Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon gains full expression with a little time to breathe (we recommend about 30 minutes). Get ready to experience the velvety opulence in the mouth-feel and the massive flavor explosion that goes on forever in the elegant finish.
Only five barrels were produced of the 2021 KATALI Cabernet Sauvignon by our winemaker extraordinaire, Richard Sowalsky. We are pleased to offer this exquisite release for your enjoyment and we invite you to become a member of the KATALI Wine Club today.

Michael and Jackie wanted to create a legacy of ultra-premium, irresistible small lot wines as a way to connect their daughters to the wine country they grew up in. The stellar 2015 vintage was their first release of KATALI. The Downer's wine roots go back to Michael’s grandfather who had property in Napa Valley in the 1950’s and who loved to visit the Valley with family and friends. Friendships play a pivotal role with our grape sourcing, custom crushing and most of all, the wine making. While the family has strong ties to the Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest, Napa is the heart of KATALI.
Jackie spent ten years at Wilson Daniels Wine Sales & Marketing, where as VP she worked with several prestigious wine brands including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Salon Champagne. Next was 12 years as VP, General Manager at Clos Pegase Winery, which was owned by Jan & Mitsuko Shrem, to round out her wine business expertise. It also introduced her and Michael to their illustrious artisan winemaker, Richard Sowalsky.
Ever since Michael and Jackie met at Linfield College, in the heart of Oregon wine country, their love and appreciation for wine has grown. They moved to the Napa Valley in 1989 where the siren song of winemaking is strong for Michael. While his passion and dedication to the Banking industry runs deep, his love for wine seems to run in his veins. He dabbled in home winemaking with friends, creating some gold medal beauties (Port and Cabernet Sauvignon) that are holding up very well to aging.
